Description:
Our client's database environment uses multiple versions of Oracle and is several versions behind current. Planning to migrate to Oracle 11G will begin shortly.

A decision will be made for a range of off-the-shelf packages to migrate the databases to either Oracle or SQL server, if appropriate.

The hardware platform will also move to a new Unix variant and the most appropriate Unix based operating system will be determined by the project.

The project will look into the entire database environment, the application tool sets, all database management and housekeeping processes, and the DR environment to review and improve the entire database environment to manage the databases more efficiently, and produce a high level architecture.

The architecture will include cost estimates and timelines, selection of tools, management and monitoring approach, and disposition of legacy applications.

This architecture will be implemented in phase 2.

Job Activities:

Phase 1 - Architecture Review
Specific responsibilities will include:

• Examine existing business requirements and systems at a high level.
• Validate those aspects which will impact the architecture.
• Determine the best configuration of databases for application needs, licensing, and support.
• Determine the most appropriate UNIX version for the requirements.
• Develop an outline timeline and estimated costs for the migration.
• Identify the most appropriate toolsets and approach to database management.
• Examine legacy applications and recommend the disposition of their data.
• Determine the environmental structure for SDLC and DR requirements.
• Explain the business rationale for the recommended architecture.

You must be a self-starter with good communication skills, and a comprehensive background in Oracle database and Unix technology.

You must also be a team player with a strong sense of ownership, and a focus on achieving client objectives.

Specific Skills should address the following;

• Unix enterprise solution design and development.
• Oracle Database experience up to version 11G.
• Experience of migrating from previous versions of Oracle to version 11G.
• A detailed understanding of available Oracle tools, utilities and support frameworks.
• A detailed understanding of Oracle database design, deployment, replication and monitoring tools.
• Understanding of Oracle's licensing structure to determine most cost-effective way to address requirements.
• Comprehensive experience with multiple versions of Unix, including, Linux, HP-UX, and AIX.
• A detailed understanding of Oracle clients and their deployment
• Developing with Oracle and SQL/Server
